Contractor, born from Mumbai in India and grew up in Nigeria up until she turned seven. She was already exposed to a lot of travel and different cultures at a very young age. The boarding school she attended was in London from seven to nine years old, then her family relocated into Toronto, Canada, where she spent the majority of her childhood and young adulthood. Contractor was a student and an expert in classical dancing in Toronto. She was a student at the Etobicoke School of the Arts an specialized arts public high school where she did not only dance but also studied theater. Contractor was inspired to pursue acting seriously at age of 16 following almost 10 year of dance. After she had completed her high school education, she was awarded an entire scholarship to University of Toronto. At the University of Toronto she completed an MA in Theatre, and was also a double major in Psychology and Sociology. Contractor was a participant in the highly acclaimed Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario, Canada, for Pericles. After a full year, she was awarded the role of lead. The show she played in 92 performances received acclaim from Canadian theater critics. The actress accepted an invitation to join Stratford's conservatory, a program that allows only four males and eight women can take a 20 weeks crash program in classical theatre. Contractor's participation in the next play-season was confirmed and she received the role of Hermia from A Midsummer Night's Dream.
